By using a non-magnetic RJ45 female connector, engineers can place magnetics (transformers) anywhere on the PCB. This allows for optimized board layouts and the use of specialized discrete magnetic components that may offer better EMI/RFI isolation than integrated MagJacks.
In high-density server environments and multi-port switches, using non-magnetic connectors combined with multi-channel magnetic modules is often more cost-effective than using multiple individual integrated MagJacks.
Without the constraints of internal magnetics, the physical connector can be designed with enhanced shielding and gold-plating thickness options (up to 50u"), ensuring a more stable physical connection for 10G and beyond applications.
